Building a Second Brain

Building a Second Brain

We overestimate our memory and underestimate the cost of holding information in our heads. A second brain, a trusted external store of notes, offloads that burden.

The goal is not to capture everything, but to capture what resonates. When an idea makes you pause, write it down in your own words. The act of rephrasing is where understanding forms.

Organize by usefulness, not by category. Ask: which project or question does this serve? Notes that connect to your active work compound in value; notes filed away and forgotten do not.

Review is where a second brain earns its keep. Revisit your notes regularly, and let old ideas collide with new ones. That collision is the engine of original thought.
